The Melbourne Racing Club is pleased to announce the inaugural running of the Swettenham Stud Summer Championship.

The Summer Champion will win a free service to Equiano valued at $16,500

The winner of the Summer Championship will be determined by the horse that accumulates the most points throughout the championship. The points structure is:

Balloting conditions

All horses competing in the final must have run in one or more of the qualifying heats.

All heat winners are exempt from ballot in the final.

In the event one or more heats are abandoned after final acceptances, each final acceptor shall be deemed to have competed in a qualifying heat and be allocated 1 point for the purposes of the ballot.

Excess horses, if any, shall be balloted in the following order:

  1. Horses with the least number of points first. In the event of two or more horses having an equal number of points, preference will be given to the higher rated horse(s).
  2. Horses on equal points and the same rating will be eliminated in order of total advertised prizemoney received in flat races, lowest first.

Horses on equal points, same rating and which have accrued equal total prizemoney in the flat races will be eliminated by lot.

SuperVOBIS and other bonuses will not be taken into account.

Leading points scorer prize (including final)

The owner (s) of the leading points scorer (including Final) will be awarded a service for the 2012 breeding season by Swettenham Stud to the stallion Equiano (FR) a son of Acclamation who stands at an advertised fee of $16,500 including GST. The owner (s) receiving the stud award shall be defined as the registered owner (s) to the intent that the lessee (s) are expressly excluded from the right to the above mentioned stallion service. For the purpose of this race the value of the stallion service shall NOT be deemed to be a prize. In the event of a dead heat the allocation of the stallion service shall be determined by a drawn lot under the supervision of the Race Club Stewards. Under no circumstances will the owner (s) of the stallion nor the Race Club be liable to provide any monetary sum in lieu of a stallion service. Arrangements regarding the selection and utilisation of the stallion service should be made with the stallion owners. Normal stud charges regarding agistment and veterinary fees, etc are to be paid by the recipient of the award.
