Back to Caulfield - Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of The Kokoda Campaign

Legacy Lone Pine Ceremony will be at 11:00am followed by complimentary morning tea. The Lone Pine Ceremony will be located on Level 1 of the Rupert Clarke Grandstand.

The Back to Caulfield initiative celebrates its 18th year in 2012 after being introduced in 1995 as part of the Australia Remembers commemorations.

Its main purpose is to recognise Caulfield Racecourse’s significant role as a military recruitment centre during World War 2.

Each year, the Back to Caulfield commemorations focus upon a particular aspect of the Australian Defence Force and the veteran community. This year, the Melbourne Racing Club will commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Kokoda Campaign with the Legacy Lone Pine Ceremony, as well as various Military and Kakoda memorabilia. There will also be complimentary morning tea served and Military Band performances including the Australian National Anthem.

The Band will march into the Mounting Yard and perform the Australian National Anthem prior to the running of the commemorative race of the day.

The Melbourne Racing Club is very proud to maintain the ‘Back to Caulfield’ tradition through this feature race day as an acknowledgement of the courageous deeds and contributions made for our nation by the men and women of the Australian Defence Force, past and present.

Admission is FREE for War Veterans, Members of Legacy, Members of the RSL, War Widows, Nurses and Nursing Associations, the Defence Forces, Corps of Commissionaires in uniform, Members of the 39th Battalion Association, Members of National Servicemen’s Association of Victoria, Members of Vietnam Veterans Association, Shrine of Remembrance staff, Committee, volunteers and guards upon presentation of appropriate identification.
