Do I need a proposer and seconder?
Applicants are requested to have a proposer and a seconder, who can be:
Option One: Two current Melbourne Racing Club Members
Option Two: One current Melbourne Racing Club Member and an employee working in one of the occupation groups listed on the application form.
However, the Club recognises that some people do not know any Members, therefore other options are available, as listed below.
I do not know any current Melbourne Racing Club Members can I still become a Member?
If you do not know any Melbourne Racing Club Members please attach two written character references to support your application for Membership. These should outline how long your referee has known you and characteristics that make you a suitable person for Membership of the Melbourne Racing Club.
The following people can act as referees:
Option one: An employee working in one of the occupation groups listed on the application form and a work colleague or superior.
Option Two: Two employees’s working in the occupation groups listed on the application form.
Can I attend the Caulfield Cup in my first year of becoming a member?
Yes, when becoming a Member of the Melbourne Racing Club there are no restrictions on the Membership and you can attend all race meetings including the Caulfield Cup.
Can I bring guests along with me to race meetings?
Melbourne Racing Club Members are entitled to purchase Members’ Reserve guest tickets for all race meetings throughout the racing season. Prices and limits vary each race meeting with special restrictions applying during the Caulfield Cup Carnival. For a full listing of entitlements and prices click here.
How long does it take to become a Member? Is there a waiting list or restricted Membership?
Depending on when your application is received by the Membership Office your application process could take up to as long as one month. Your application for membership must go before a committee election which are held monthly. Click here for dates.
Once you have been approved for Membership you will be posted a letter of acceptance together with a subscription notice. Options for payment are: Post, Fax, In person at the Membership office Monday to Friday 9am to 5.15pm. Please note that Membership cards will not be issued on race days.
Currently there is no waiting list for Membership, once approved you become a Full Member with no restrictions at all.
What do I need to pay for when sending in my application form?
A $10 lodgement fee is required, alongside payment for relevant joining fees, subscription and any optional extras. All monies, with the exception of the $10 lodgement fee, will be refunded if your Membership application is not approved.
